WATCH: Rep. Nadler Denies Request By Rep. Gaetz To Say Pledge Of Allegiance Before Committee Meetings

Representative Matt Gaetz made a request on Thursday to start off committee meetings by saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Rep. Jerry Nadler shot down the request, saying it is unnecessary.

“I just think it would be nice, if in the spirit of national unity, and national pride … that at the beginning of each meeting, the chair, or one of the designees of the chair, would have the opportunity to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance,” said Gaetz.

“It’s unnecessary. There’s no necessity to say the Pledge of Allegiance twice during the same day,” replied Nadler.

Freshman Rep. Cori Bush said that the Pledge of Allegiance is a symbol of White Supremacy in response to Gaetz.
