REPORT: China Conducted “Anal” Coronavirus Tests on U.S. Diplomats

An anonymous US State Department official told Vice News on Wednesday that Chinese officials required several American diplomats to submit to anal testing for COVID-19.

The notoriously unreliable Chinese Foreign Ministry denied the anal testing on Thursday.

Vice reported that an Australian traveler who was subjected to an anal test said it felt like having diarrhea, an incredibly unpleasant feeling.

The unnamed source from the state department told Vice News the following:

“The State Department never agreed to this kind of testing and protested directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when we learned that some staff were subject to it,” a State Department spokesperson told VICE World News on Wednesday.

The spokesperson said Beijing had assured Washington that the test was given “in error” and that diplomatic personnel were exempt from the test, which was mandatory for incoming travelers in some parts of China.

“We have instructed staff to decline this test if it is asked of them, as was done in the past.”

The State Department informed Reuters in an email statement that they were “committed to guaranteeing the safety and security of American diplomats and their families, while preserving their dignity” a non-denial of the events taking place.

The Washington Post also reported earlier in February that US personnel stationed in China had complained about being subjected to anal COVID tests.

Zhao Lijian, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, claimed China never asked American personnel to take the anal COVID test.
